ABSTRACT: An Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) for pico-satellites is a set of hardware and software that supplies energy demands throughout the lifetime of the satellite. There are several classifications for EPS architectures. This work presents an analysis and general discussion of the main EPS architectures for CubeSats and a new architecture based on the Distributed Energy System (DPS) using the concept of stacked DCDC converters. The proposed topology ensures that maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is performed concomitantly with the bus voltage regulation. With this, the energy destined for the DC bus is processed only once from the photovoltaic array. In addition, due to the parallel connection of the input, this architecture allows the redirection of energy to the battery, reducing the time of charge and ensuring that the battery will be fully charged during the eclipse intervals of the satellite. Also, the experimental results that prove the operation of the proposed architecture will be presented. |
